One place to discover is called Duzdag. The name means Salt Mountain and that’s exactly what it is. People have collected salt here for over 4000 years but what’s so interesting nowadays is that you can sleep in the old mine-caverns – that’s considered very healthy especially if you’re suffering from breathing difficulties. It’s in Nakhchivan, a disconnected exclave of Azerbaijan so you have to go by plane to get there from Baku but tickets are pretty cheap and the flight is fantastic on a clear day.
